UNHCR Screens “Cambodia Dreams” for World Refugee Day
Coinciding with World Refugee Day on 20th June under the concept of “Home -- They took my home but they can’t take my future”, this year United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) organised the Special Screening of the film “Cambodia Dreams” in honour of World Refugee Day. The event aimed to raise awareness and create understanding towards refugees in Thailand. “We select Cambodia Dreams to show our gratitude to Thai government and Thai people hosting the refugees from neighbouring countries in the past and even today. The model showed in the film is one of the best practice in handling refugees from living in camps until bringing them back home on a voluntarily basis,” stated Jean-Noël Wetterwald, UNHCR’s Regional Representative in Thailand and Regional Co-ordinator for South East Asia.
About 150 people joined the special screening taking different messages after the film.
“I have no idea about refugees before I saw the film. Now that I know I want to help more. I am willing to support UNHCR in spreading the message or finding more supporters,” said one of the viewers.
