The COVID-19 outbreak has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
UNHCR is urgently appealing to support its prevention and response efforts to protect refugees, displaced people and host communities worldwide.
COVID-19 does not discriminate. Refugees are at the same risk of contracting and transmitting the virus as local populations. However, over 80% of the global refugee population and nearly all of world’s internally displaced people are hosted in low to middle-income countries, which have weaker health and water and sanitation systems, and often find themselves in overcrowded places, unable to obtain hygiene items or medical support.
Our primary goal is to ensure that refugees are included in the national COVID-19 surveillance, preparedness and response activities. UNHCR’s preparedness measures will protect refugees, displaced people and their host communities before, during and after this global health emergency.
But we can’t do this alone, please donate TODAY.
Due to the fast-changing nature of this crisis, we may also need to supplement national responses at short notice, including infection prevention and control, coordination, planning and monitoring.
Please help today to ensure we are prepared and can do all we can to contain this emergency.
