Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists the Regional Global RSD Officer in the RPH to provide constructive and timely advice to offices on the selection and implementation of applicable RSD standards; 
  2. Assists the Regional Global RSD Officer in the RPH to provide feedback on RSD assessments, as well as on recommendations for exclusion or cancellation, prepared by offices in the region;
  3. Assists the Regional Global RSD Officer in the RPH to provide assistance to the offices in the region in developing, updating and/or implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all stages of RSD procedures and processes;
  4. Serves as the focal point for monitoring and flagging developments regarding statelessness in the region and provides recommendations to the Senior Regional Protection Adviser on advancing action plans to prevent or reduce statelessness in the region; 
  5. Assists in providing capacity –building and promotional support at the regional and national levels to offices in the region on RSD, statelessness and other protection related topics;
  6. Provides information to regional and civil society partners, as well as national partners regarding relevant  protection and legal issues related to persons of UNHCR’s concern;
  7. Prepares draft reports and tables related to RSD, statelessness, and other protection topics for review by the Regional Global RSD Officer and/or the Senior Regional Protection Adviser;
  8. Represents UNHCR at regional meetings and conferences at the appropriate level and prepares notes for the file summarizing such events; 
  9. Keeps abreast of protection developments in the region, particularly related to RSD, statelessness, jurisprudence, legislation and regulations;
  10. Undertakes other duties as required. 

Qualification Requirements

  • Education and Skills: University degree in Law, International Law, Political Science or related field.  English drafting skills are essential.  PLP and OMLP is an advantage.  Good communication and computer skills.  
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years of the previous job experience and minimum 2 years of the previous job experience in the relevant field
  • Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Thai. Knowledge of other UN languages desirable. 
  • Thai national only.
