The Venerable Vudhijaya Vajiramedhi (V. Vajiramedhi), a well-respected Thai Buddhist monk and High Profile Supporter of UNHCR, travelled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to learn more about the work UNHCR does to help urban refugees in Malaysia.
While there, the Venerable V. Vajiramedhi received information regarding the process of registering new refugees and learnt about the projects funded by UNHCR for the protection of refugees. This included a school for refugee children and a refugee health clinic run by UNHCR’s NGO partner Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, a school and vocational training centre run by Dignity for Children Foundation, and a women’s empowerment and livelihoods project run by Earth Heir. The Venerable V. Vajiramedhi also had the opportunity to engage in a group discussion with Rohingya refugees to hear about their experiences and the challenges they face in their daily lives away from home.
The Venerable V. Vajiramedhi is a supporter of UNHCR’s Nobody Left Outside campaign to provide shelter and protection for refugees in urgent need.
