Angelina Jolie returns to Iraq, urges support for the displaced
UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie holds a newborn baby while visiting a displaced Iraqi family in the Baghdad suburb of Chikook. The baby has a rash most likely brought on by the poor conditions in the settlement.
Children in the makeshift settlement play outside the house where UNHCR’s Goodwill Ambassador Angela Jolie talks with a displaced Iraqi family.
The settlement is home to more than 20,000 people, mostly women and children and including several thousand local people. It lacks drinking water, an operational sewage system and paved roads.
Goodwill Ambassador Jolie told the displaced families she met that she hopes to find them living under better circumstances the next time she visits.
The families that Jolie met said their children could not go to school and they could not afford to pay for medical treatment for various ailments.
A group of men and boys gather in the settlement to discuss their situation and life during Jolie's visit.
