Venezuela Crisis

4.5 million people have fled violence, insecurity and increasing poverty since 2014.

An estimated 5,000 people are leaving Venezuela every day. The majority are families with children, pregnant women, elderly people and people with disabilities. People continue to leave Venezuela due to violence, insecurity and threats, and lack of food, medicine and essential services. With over 3 million Venezuelans now living abroad, the vast majority in countries within South America, this is the largest exodus in the recent history of Latin America.

“We left everything in Venezuela. We don’t have a place to live or sleep and have nothing to eat.”
–Nayebis Carolina Figuera, a 34-year-old from Venezuela-

Often required to take irregular routes to reach safety, they fall prey to smugglers, traffickers and armed groups. Those who make it to neighbouring countries are arriving traumatised, exhausted and in dire need of assistance.

UNHCR is already on the ground to help families forced to flee as the numbers continue to increase. We are working to ensure the most vulnerable are protected with shelter, health care and documents which will allow them to access services so they are not exposed and at risk. But we can’t do this alone.
