English: DR Congo Emergency
A deadly volcanic eruption in the northern Democratic Republic of the Congo has wiped out everything in its path.
Tens of thousands of people have fled to safety and many crossed into Rwanda, but are now returning to see what remains of their homes and belongings. The situation remains volatile.
We need your help NOW
UNHCR is on the ground to provide lifesaving care and protection to families in need of help. Our teams are assessing the most urgent needs and mobilizing shelter and relief items so that affected people can rest and recover from this disaster, but we must do more.
The volcano eruption comes on top of an already tragic humanitarian emergency. Over 2 million people displaced by brutal conflict and violence live in the northern DRC, including more than 450,000 forced to flee this year alone.
Help us now so that we can reach everyone in need.
We can support families who have lost everything to return to or rebuild their homes. But we can’t do it alone. Our operations in DRC and neighbouring countries are already critically underfunded.
