Emergency aid is desperately needed for tens of thousands of displaced families in Myanmar, as well as refugees and host communities in Bangladesh following Cyclone Mocha’s devastation in the region. Shelters and essential infrastructure has collapsed and community facilities destroyed.
Extreme weather events like Cyclone Mocha could also have longer-term impacts for refugees from Myanmar hoping to return home. The coming monsoon will make communities - especially those who are displaced - more vulnerable.
UNHCR teams are on the ground, coordinating with relevant actors and assessing the damage and needs.
Families in Myanmar and Bangladesh need emergency assistance.
The situation for millions of people in the region is already uncertain. Since 2021, intensified violence has forced people to flee Myanmar to neighbouring countries, and displaced more within the country. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees have fled Myanmar in 2017 to escape violence and persecution, with most of them today hosted in Bangladesh.
Monthly gifts help us protect more families forced to flee. By making a monthly donation to UNHCR, you will provide refugees with ongoing relief and protection and help them regain hope for a better future.
